About Me

“South Africa’s charming household name.”
“There’s a depth to Jack Devnarain that is rare in people who make it to the big time. Perhaps it’s life experience one can read in the subtle smile and soulful eyes of this cop turned actor, speaker, celebrity, MC.”

Jack cut his teeth on the hard realities of life. He was fortunate to have a Drama teacher mother, but he perfected his performance art by imitating life – his role models were ordinary people.

Jack studied Drama while completing his Law degree at the University of KZN, Durban. He joined the Police Force after completing his studies and spent 9 years on the beat, while continuing to accept acting commissions, as and when his schedule allowed.

In 2002 his dual career as an actor took off and he had to make a tough choice. Happily for his thousands of fans, Jack left the police force and joined the cast of South Africa’s much loved daily soap Isidingo the Need. Since then, Jack Devnarain has become one of South Africa’s most popular and successful film characters, both on the small screen and in international movies.

Jack has also made a name for himself as a polished Master of Ceremonies and Professional Speaker. He is popular across the board in the events industry and has a growing list of loyal clients.

Based on his training as a Cop, Jack’s Personal Defense and Crime Prevention presentations are popular, especially for Women’s Day events. Men in the corporate world enjoy the shooting range exercises, best described as Team Building with a purpose, as it includes self defense, weapon handing and control.

Jack is committed to community based initiatives and is involved in various cultural, youth and charity events.  He supports fundraising events around South Africa and is an ambassador for Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory, Crime Line, CHOC and the SAPS Widows and Orphans Fund.

Widely respected in film and stage circles, Jack currently serves as Actors Representative for Isidingo and as Chairman of the South African Guild of Actors (SAGA).

He has many other hidden talents and passions, among them his family, motor bikes and power lifting.
